It’s that time of year when our thoughts turn to festive overindulgence, swiftly followed by New Year’s Resolutions to undo it all. You’ll be unsurprised to hear that the top three resolutions are: 1. Exercise more 2. Lose weight and 3. Eat more healthily. Sound familiar?
We’re often told that having a specific goal and deadline in mind is the best way to make sure you keep to your resolutions beyond the first Monday back at work in January.
The good news it that we’ve got the perfect goal for you. How about signing up for the Kirkcudbright Academy Half Marathon and staying with us at our Galloway Holiday Cottages at High Kirkland?
The 2018 Kirkcudbright Academy Half Marathon takes place on Saturday 26th May. It starts just over a mile away at the local secondary school, Kirkcudbright Academy. It finishes in the same place – you’ll never be so glad to see those school gates!
If you’re not quite up to the full 13.1 miles, there’s a shorter run called The Beeches. It was introduced a few years ago and is just under 7 miles. Both routes head north-east out of town towards Tongland. There are plenty of signs and stewards en route to make sure you don’t get lost.
Not just a Half Marathon
It’s a well organised event and is now in its 35th year. The routes have been measured and verified by Scottish Athletics and use a chip system to make sure your time is accurate. And it’s not just a half marathon on offer. There’s also a family fun run (1.5 miles) and a Half Marathon walk so that the whole family can get involved.
Spectators support the runners and walkers all along the route, not just in town, to add to the special atmosphere. And there’s a goody bag for all finishers, too. You’ll be rewarded with a medal, home baked treats courtesy of the school and healthy fruit.
And after you’re finished, head back to your Kirkcudbright Holiday Cottages for a soak in the hot tub. You can give yourself a pat on the back then start planning your next goal.
