The countryside around High Kirkland is one of the many reasons our visitors book Kirkcudbright Holiday Cottages for their break. For one weekend in July, the town celebrates everything that’s great about rural life. Join us in July for the Kirkcudbright Country Fair.
This year’s event is on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th July and, as ever, takes place at The Carse. The site is a couple of miles out of town and offers fantastic entertainment and activities for the whole family.
It’s just a ten-minute drive from the Galloway Holiday Cottages and there’s ample free parking. There’s also a free shuttle bus from Harbour Square if you’d rather leave the car in town. And if you’re feeling fit, you can walk the two and a half miles to The Carse.
A day out at the fair is great value for money at £6 per adult, £5 per child and £20 for a family ticket. Under 3s go free and the great thing is, once you’re in, all activities are free. The prices are for one day and this includes parking, cooking demos, fairground rides, giant trampolining and main arena shows.
This year’s attractions haven’t been announced but based on previous years, you’re guaranteed a busy and fun-filled day.
There’s a huge range of guest performers and display teams. Past displays include a dog team, falconry with eagles, vultures, owls and falcons and a sheepdog and duck display team! Your own dogs are welcome as long as they’re kept on a lead (and not left in the car).
Entertainment for Kids and Teenagers
There’s plenty to entertain the kids with entertainment, face painting and a treasure hunt. There will also be a glimpse of this year’s Kirkcudbright Art and Crafts Trail – this year’s theme is pirates. Teenagers are well served with graffiti artistry workshops, sound system workshops and a silent disco featuring in the past.
Local produce features heavily at the fair so you can take your own piece of country life home. There is local food and drink, plant stalls and arts and crafts on offer. And for steam enthusiasts, there are steam traction engines and small steam trains on display.
After a busy day at Kirkcudbright Country Fair head back to the peace of your South West Scotland Holiday Cottages. Enjoy the luxury at High Kirkland as you enjoy the views and plan the rest of your break.
